Identifying the method of initial breast cancer detection is critical for evaluating performance of screening mammography, yet this information is not readily available in US cancer registries. In this session, we will present a standard framework for assigning method of detection (MOD) for each exam. We will provide strategies for implementing MOD data collection at an individual practice, a first step towards meeting this critical knowledge gap.
Learning Objectives:
Explain the importance of collection of method of detection (MOD) data on a broad, population-based level.
Correctly assign standardized MOD for a given exam.
Implement a program at their own institution for standardized collection and reporting of MOD data.
